We are Josiah and Chloe Durling, and we've been going to Word of Life: The Pines (formerly known as the Family Campground) for our entire lives. In the mornings, there’s a kid’s program, a teen’s program, and an adult program where everyone learns from the Word of God. In the afternoons, there are activities like baseball, dodgeball, volleyball, basketball, cornhole, Family Fun Day, and a whole lot more!
This summer, we’ll be serving there for ten weeks, six days a week, along with a one-on-one discipleship program with the college students who will be serving with us. The goal of The Pines—both as a team and as a ministry—is to spread the gospel by refreshing and renewing campers physically, mentally, and spiritually. We feel called to be a part of that by serving on the camp crew.
I (Josiah) will be on the Tech Team, helping the gospel go out through sound, video, and lighting for whatever activities they’ve got planned.
I (Chloe) will be part of the Kids Program—sharing the gospel with the kids, helping them have a great time, and giving parents some relief by caring for their little ones during the mornings.
There’s a lot more we’ll be doing during our time there. On Saturdays, we help clean the cabins, and there are often chances to serve in other areas or just jump into whatever’s needed. There’s also time to be with the team—resting, worshiping, studying, and encouraging one another.
You can support us through prayer—pray that we’d be effective in ministry, grow in our faith, be true servants of God, and love our campers well. Pray that we would bless those around us, help the team offer a strong program, and stay diligent in both our work and our walk with God.
You can also support us financially. It’s not a burden for us to be there—we’re happy to go—but as we start to think about financial responsibilities and what it means to step into adulthood, we’re asking for $3,000 each (which works out to roughly minimum wage) to help cover the opportunity cost. Of course, you wouldn’t just be covering expenses—you’d be investing in “a summer well spent.”
Thanks for your consideration, church family. Grace be with you.
